The MLS ( Multiple Listing Service) is a large database of currently available property such as residential homes, vacant land, commercial property or rental property listed by REALTORS® for sale or lease within a geographical area for sale in a specific area. All MLS boards are governed and subject to the rules of the National Association of Realtors ™ (NAR) Membership is established by Realtors® and brokers belonging to area boards, allowing them access to data which is shared between the members. Many boards share data (reciprocal data-sharing) as well.

A person must be a properly licensed broker to place information into any of the various MLS boards, as well as maintaining active membership of each board.
